Kayla Cavano grew up near Mason in Loveland OH. In high school, Kayla participated in every ensemble she could including marching band, jazz band, and horn choir. It was during this time that she quickly realized her passion for music. After high school, Kayla studied Music Education and Horn performance at Miami University where she participated in many ensembles including the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Graduate Woodwind Quintet, and Steel Band. Her Drum Corps International performance experiences include 1 year with Blue Stars (La Crosse, WI) and 2 years with The Blue Devils (Concord, CA). In 2017, Kayla was a performer with the Blue Devils, who received the gold medal at Drum Corps International World Championships.
Kayla has had numerous teaching experiences over the last few years. Throughout her time at Miami, she provided both musical and visual instruction for several marching ensembles in the area, including the Lebanon High School Marching Band, Colerain High School Marching Band, and Cap City Indoor Percussion Ensemble. In 2017, Kayla completed her student teaching at Fairfield High School under the direction and guidance of Mrs. Jill Wilhelm where she had the opportunity to teach the concert bands and the high school marching band. After graduating with her bachelors degree, she was hired as a long-term substitute band teacher at Ross Middle School. Currently, Kayla is on brass staff with The Blue Devils B Drum & Bugle Corps, visual staff with The Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps and designs drill for the Sycamore High School Winterguard. Kayla is now thrilled to continue her teaching journey by working with the incredible staff, students and parents involved with Mason Bands!
