John Scharf

John received his Bachelor’s degree in music education from Michigan State University. He has been a part of numerous ensembles at the university including the Spartan Marching Band where he served as the Band’s President, numerous percussion ensembles, including a 2017 performance at PASIC and the Michigan State Wind Symphony. 

Prior to joining the team at Mason, John has assisted with various high school band programs across the midwest including Lake Orion High School, Homestead High School, Whiteland High School, East Kentwood High School and DeWitt High School. 

John currently serves as the Ensemble Coordinator for Matrix Open which includes a 2nd place finish in 2019 at the Winter Guard International World Championships and a member of the instructional staff for the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. 

His marching experience includes the Spartan Marching Band, NorthCoast Academy, the Cadets and Matrix Performing Arts.

Guided by mentors, friends and family, John believes that music has the chance to create meaningful relationships, personal growth and a chance for students to gain life lessons. 

In his free time John enjoys watching and playing basketball, making music and spending time with family and friends.
