Winter Percussion

Winter Percussion

The winter percussion program is an opportunity for students to learn advanced percussion concepts in both the individual and ensemble settings in a percussion only environment designed specifically for the Mason percussion program. For 2026, the MHS Winter program rehearses between January 22nd to May 4th, culminating with a recording session on May 5th and public performance on May 9th. The 2026 Season Info Document and Calendar can be found here and on the band calendar: 2026 WINTER PERCUSSION INFO DOCUMENT

Over the course of these four months, the students will explore the fundamentals of playing, learn new exercises specifically designed for the current MHS season, and continue to develop advanced performance skills. The material selection is curated and arranged specifically for this current set of students and explores both the musical and independently challenging aspects of ensemble growth.

The education team is composed of Ben Cato, Michael Reese, Sean Anderson, Aubrie Lynn, and Ellie Mehr, and will rotate in and out to ensure maximum coverage and a constant refresh of perspectives and information. New to the winter percussion team is our arranger, Brandon Cummings, and with his addition brings a new light to the percussion repertoire the MHS students will explore over the course of these four months.

We look forward to a creative and interactive 2026 winter percussion season. For any questions, please reach out to Mr. Cato at mhspercussion@masonohioschools.com
