Aaron Rex is the newest addition to the Mason City Schools' band department. Originally from Perrysburg, Ohio, he received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Kent State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Music Education from Bowling Green State University.
Prior to coming to Mason, Aaron served as Director of Bands for the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools and Jackson City Schools in Ohio. Groups under his direction have consistently earned top level "Superior" ratings and have performed at the OMEA Professional Development Conference, Severance Hall in Cleveland, the Field Museum in Chicago, and Walt Disney World in Orlando. Aaron has been named a Semifinalist for both the Music & Arts Music Educator of the Year and the Grammy Music Educator Awards. Aaron is a sought after clinician having presented multiple clinics at the OMEA Professional Development Conference, the Complete Band Director Workshop at Capital University, and was invited to present at the 2020 Midwest International Band & Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. In addition to teaching, Aaron has also served on various committees and as a district officer for OMEA.
While at Kent State University, Aaron served as Field Commander for the Marching Golden Flashes and performed with the Kent State Wind Ensemble at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. He studied advanced conducting with Drs. Wayne Gorder and Scott Seaton, and trombone/euphonium with David Mitchell and Chas Baker. He holds memberships in the American School Band Directors Association, Ohio Music Education Association, and Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity.
