Rehearsal Locations this Week

Rehearsals on Monday and Tuesday this week will be on the MHS campus like normal. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday rehearsals will be held at Wall2Wall. We will have two school buses to transport students from the High School to Wall2Wall, however, because of the limited capacity, we encourage everyone to make transportation arrangements to get there on their own if at all possible.

 

Grand Nationals Travel Briefing & Booster Meeting: Thursday!

We are less than two weeks away from Grand Nationals!   As our students and staff work hard to polish the show, your travel and logistics team has been finalizing details for the big Indianapolis experience.   

 

Please join us for the Parent Travel Briefing this Thursday, November 7th at 7pm in the Band Room.  You will hear from our Directors about student travel expectations and we will share how we manage health and wellness as we travel, itinerary details, packing suggestions and up-to the minute travel tips. 

 

MSBA Championships 11/9:  Volunteer Shifts Need to be Filled!

The MSBA Championship is coming up this Saturday, November 9th and we still need lots of volunteers!!

 

We have 60 open volunteer shifts and 71 open Hospitality food donations so we really need everyone to sign up! 

 

The competition is scheduled from 5-9 pm with Mason scheduled to perform at 7 pm.  There are volunteer shift opportunities  before, during and after the competition time.

Bake Sale: Donation Request!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

Donations are requested for the BAKE SALE at the MSBA Championship.

 

We are asking for treats such as:

Brownies * Chocolate Covered Pretzels * Cookies * Dessert Bars * Gluten Free Treats * Muffins * Popcorn Treats * Snack Mixes

 

Items need to be individually wrapped or bagged. You can package one large cookie or 3 small cookies, one large brownie or 2 small brownies, etc. Snack size bags make perfect portions for small items. No need to worry about pricing, we will make sure everything gets marked.

 

VERY IMPORTANT – If you are making anything that contains TREE NUTS and/or PEANUT BUTTER, PLEASE make sure that information is clearly marked on the package.

 

Bake Sale items will be accepted all day. You may drop off your treats at the Bake Sale Booth within the Stadium (near HS Entrance) as early as 2:00 pm on Saturday.

While we appreciate and are thankful to everyone who contributes bake sale food items to the Invitational, supplying food does not satisfy the mandatory volunteering requirement for the day.

 

Spirit Committee Request

Calling all parents... the Spirit Committee would love your help to decorate the band hallway and students lockers on Tuesday, November 12th, at 4:30pm. Bring signs of your own and we will have some as well. If you aren’t able to join us posters may be dropped off Monday evening at the end of rehearsal to Crystal Langbein or Jennie Patterson. Posters will not be returned once students go to Indy, should you want to keep one you make you will need to retrieve it from the band hallway on Wednesday evening after school when the spirit committee will be cleaning up the decorations.

 

Medication for Grand Nationals

Please read this entire update carefully.

 

Medication Process:

  1. All student medications, both OTC and Rx, are managed and dispensed by our Band Aids. Parents/guardians need to turn in medication along with associated DMS forms prior to travel. 

  2. All DMS forms must be signed by both a doctor and a parent/guardian.

  3. Emergency/rescue medication (such as inhalers and epinephrine) are the only medication that can be carried by students. These medications require a DMS form to be turned in. We recommend you also turn in a back up medication for our Band Aids to carry.

  4. If you turned in medication earlier this season, we will bring it with us when we travel. If you need to ‘refill’ one of these medications, please sign up for Medication Drop Off in Charms.

  5. If your student sees a healthcare professional prior to travel, we recommend that you take a blank DMS form to your student’s appointment in case OTC or Rx meds are needed. http://bit.ly/DMS-Blank

  6. Please make a copy of all forms for your records before you turn them in.

 

Central OTC Medication

We encourage parents/guardians to provide access to our Central OTC medications (ibuprofen, acetaminophen, benadryl) if your student has ever needed one of these medications in the past.  Please consider the 3 days your student will be in the care of the Mason Bands program during a time of excitement, stress, and long rehearsal/performance days. Central OTC symptom relief medication can be an important part of keeping your student feeling their best during this time. 

 

Medication Drop Off Sign Up in Charms:

There will be 2 medication drop off events prior to our trip to Indianapolis. Please sign up in Charms for an appointment during one of these times:

  • Wednesday November 6th from 5-6 pm at Wall to Wall

  • Friday November 8th from 5-6 pm at Wall to Wall

Grand Nationals Transportation Waivers-Due 11/10/19

If your student will not be traveling on the bus with us both to and from Indianpolis or you plan to pick up your student in Indy and have them ride home with you, you must complete a transportation waiver prior to the trip.  This is a Mason City Schools requirement.  The Transportation Waiver is now an online form that you can complete by clicking the link below.   Transportation Waivers are due next Sunday, November 10th.

Students being dismissed at the conclusion of Grand National may be checked out after the final awards conclude Saturday, November 16th (approximately midnight) or Sunday, November 17th (approximately 8:00am).  All dismissals will be at the JW Marriott.

Mason’s 2019 MSBA Championship Schedule - November 9, 2019

9:00 am -12:00 pm : Rehearsal at Stadium - Bring water and dress in layers for the weather.  Have performance clothes ready for later in the day.  Bring Dinner or  have plan for dinner.

12:00 pm -1:00 pm : Lunch Break - Lunch Provided at Kiwanis Pancake Social - Student Meal provided in partnership with Mason Kiwanis.  The  Pancake Social is in the MMS Cafeteria (Pancakes, Sausage, Biscuits and Gravy, Juice, Water)

1:00 pm -3:00 pm: Rehearsal at Stadium

3:00 pm: Move Props - To Middle School Parking Lot Competition Lane

3:15 pm: Dinner Break - Student BYO to campus or eat and return.

4:30 pm: Guard Performance Prep - At MHS

5:00 pm: Instrumentalist Performance Prep - At MHS

5:45 pm: Block in Bus Circle - Wear coats, pending on weather

Depart for Warm Up

6:00 pm: Warm Up - If cold, instrumentalists leave coats when picking up props to gather after the run.

7:00 pm - Mason Performance

7:15 pm: Brass/WWs Move Props to trailers,  FE push  to instrument truck.  Guard return flag bags to truck.

7:30 pm: Students return to Campus to change - At MHS

7:45 pm -ish: Students return chaperoned to Stadium - Visitor side as a group for final performances and awards; Students may get snacks.

9:15 pm -ish:  Approx Dismissal time -  Students will help do a trash and tidy of the stadium at the conclusion of awards and then will be dismissed.
