The Winter Percussion program is an extracurricular activity comprised of high
school percussionists who are enrolled in one of the five concert bands at Mason
High School. This program takes place after the marching band season through the
spring. The program has two main components which rotate every year.
The indoor
drumline consists of members who participate in the marching band. This group
meets on even numbered years and competes in both the Mideast Performance
Association and the Winter Guard International circuits. The indoor drumline has
received numerous awards including 2nd Place at the 2002 Winter Guard
International World Championships. They also performed with the world-renown
Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra during their 2003 “Home for the Holidays” concert
series.
The concert
percussion ensemble meets on odd numbered years and performs at a feature
concert during the spring. This group continues to grow at Mason High School,
performing their first concert in the spring of 2005. That event was the first
of its kind for high schools in the Cincinnati area. This ensemble performs a
variety of music in multiple genres such as jazz, pop, Latin, traditional, and
modern percussion ensembles.
