Mason Middle
School Band and Orchestra Educators believe music is a fundamental piece of the
human experience. It is our goal to educate every student to the fullest extent
in skill development, cognitive understanding, and aesthetic appreciation for
all forms of music from all cultures. The staff works with students on
performance, rehearsal and personal practice skills. Students are encouraged to
have a good work ethic, show consistent progress, and develop personal goals
while achieving new skills. Mason Middle School offers multiple grade level band
and orchestra classes. Instruction on band and string instruments at Mason
begins in the sixth grade, although first year band and orchestra classes are
offered in the 7th grade on specified instruments. Seventh grade band and
orchestra classes meet on alternating days for approximately 40 minutes,
providing five days of instructional time in a two week period. Eighth grade
band and orchestra classes meet every day for approximately 40 minutes. All
classes meet in a full ensemble setting and are team taught. Skills learned in
class are culminated in a minimum of two performances each year.
